"Brainstorms" Sculpture by Outsider Artist Eric C. Platt
Ever had a "thought storm"? Thinking too much? Is television brainwashing us? ...You decide what it means...
I created this piece after going to a party where there was a very loud punk band playing and people painting on the walls. I went outside to get away form the noise and craziness and ended up talking with a physicist. He mentioned "strange attractors" and chaos, and I asked him if maybe the brain worked like that. On the way home I saw an incredible lightning storm. I launched into painting this TV right away, and somehow all of those impressions and ideas came together in this piece. I am offering my art directly to the public to sidestep the gallery system and give greater faith to you, the buyer, to have the intelligence to know what to buy without a critic or art seller telling you what's "good". This outrageous and intriguing sculpture makes an electrifying statement wherever displayed. It consists of a painted television and a matching black-painted stand. It is definitely a conversation piece, utterly original and compelling. Turn it on, and the static from the TV seems to glow and pulse through the "brain". This is a one of a kind artistic statement, very entertaining as well as provocative and colorful. Definitely out of the ordinary. With a punk feeling, yet highly skilled in execution, this vibrant piece is boldly imaginative and strangely captivating. You will find people staring at it. With the TV turned on (allow time for animation to load):
Absolutely one of a kind!
Dimensions are 12" x 15" x 40". Materials are acrylic and enamel on television.
Inspired by non-Western art, the beauty of nature, postindustrial culture, travels in California and Hawaii, and his own explorations into the inner mind, Erics art is a visual testament to a seeker of the source of creativity and wisdom within, the electric spark of soul energy. His art speaks of the soul and the yearnings for expression of the True Self. Erics art has been shown in various venues in Southern California, both commercial and academic, and is owned by private collectors in The USA, Europe and Canada.
